The GSP club of WNY was formed to promote the German Shorthaired Pointer as a multi faceted, versatile dog, as a hunter, companion and family dog. Monthly meetings are held, rotating between the Pembroke area and Williamsville area. While we especially like GSPs, we welcome members with any breed of pointing dog
Hunt
Testing
Hunt Tests evaluates a pointing dog’s hunting skills (i.e. retrieving, pointing) and general trainability in a hunting environment. Hunt tests are evaluated at three different levels – Junior, Senior and Master. Hunt tests help owners and handlers to develop their dog’s abilities through structured challenges with birds
Conformation
Conformation is a competition where purebread dogs are judged on how closely a they match the breads ideal physical standard. Judges assess a dog’s structure, movement and temperament against detailed written standards with the goal of finding the dog that best embodies the “ideal” for that breed.
Rally & Obedience
Rally and Obedience are structured, competitive dog sports focusing on teamwork and obedience. Rally offers a more relaxed, conversational, and interactive approach compared to the high precision of traditional Obedience. Rally features numbered, sign-guided courses (10-20 stations), while Obedience involves rigorous, precise, and often off-leash, multi-level exercises.
Agility
AKC Agility is a high energy, timed competition where handlers guide dogs off-leash through an obstacle course (jumps, tunnels, weave poles, teeters) using only voice and body cues. While open to all breeds, the GSP breed with its inherent athleticism, focus, and teamwork is particularly well suited to Agility competition across all levels from Novice to Master.
